Green Marble/ Lion Head/ Sash Pin
This is an
old, probably 1940's or older brass sach pin. It's great for
re-enactors that wear a wool plaid cover/ shawl. Also, collectors
piece.
As with old sash
pins, this has the typical hook in front to hold part of a scarf
or piece of material with. Not sure if the Scottish or Irish, or both use(d)
these.
Flowers, leafs and
scrolls accent the design, with a small Lion head at the right end middle,
looking down towards the stone. The flowers & leafs in the middle come up
from under the pin to lay on top.
It's finished off
with the strong "C" clasp on back.
The stone, I'd have
to guess would be celluloid or bakelite (?). Marble green in
color.
Note: A little copper color shows through the brass on the
hook, other than that great condition. And the stone has shifted
some of the years, not that it's really noticeable other than by the owner.
Measurements: The pin is approx. 2" in height by approx.
2-3/4" in width (length).
