SOLD / Sterling Mans Watch Chain with Fob This is a heavy weight sterling watch chain, with a hematite stone for a fob. Heavy in weight, to carry those heavy thick silver key wind pocket watches from the 1800's. A gentleman's or officer of wealth, watch chain. I copied this off an original design. I used a large/long design from approx. the 1860's, since most men or larger today. A number of others (watch chains) from that time period seem to be a great deal shorter, so I felt the longer version one was the best way to go for today's use. Most chains seem to be of brass and some of gold, yet most of the key wind pocket watches found today seem to be made of sterling/ silver. Why you see very few sterling chains I have no idea, since metals shouldn't be mixed, due to oxidation. The chain design is what I call the snake design, so it really doesn't show well. NOTE: Don't be deceived by the picture. This is a thick/ heavy weight chain. Check on the measurements. The "T" bar is the only vintage part in this piece, but should give a good idea of size, since it's 1-1/4" long. Measurements: The center chain is 14-1/2" long, the swivel is approx. 3/4" long, the "T" bar in the middle is 1-1/4" long. The center drop is approx. 2" long and the hematite stone itself is 1-3/8", with a silver spacer on top and bottom of it. |
