Silver "Coronet Pin" This was a piece that was popular and carried between the mid too late C.W. period, as read. Although I personally think, it was carried earlier than that. This goes by a couple of names, but most commonly used was "Coronet," flower holder made of silver or gilded metal. At the end of the holder was a ring which held a handkerchief. This would be carried by someone single, young or someone getting married. It’s said to have held in the bottom, wet moss to keep flowers fresh, personally that could get pretty messes. The pin part is a reproduction made of good weight stamped sterling silver in an ornate pattern. It can be worn alone, with a cameo hanging from it or with the coronet. It has a safety latch pin on back. So of course there is no "C" clasp. The cornet was worn and hung from the waist. It’s a reproduction made of stamped silver. There is a place on it that is smooth and looks to have been design for one’s initials. I personally would put straw flowers in it, to keep it from ruining your dress / skirt, or fresh flowers without water. As you can tell there is a pin that is to be inserted after your flowers, I think it’s to hold the flowers in, yet I think I’d use putty instead. The ring holder part seems perfect just for that purpose. There is a chain from the coronet to the pin which slides on and off, to add what you want for wearing, giving multi pieces. Their is a spring clasp that hooks the top chain to the holder ring. Great for balls and dances. Measurements: The pin measures 2-5/8" wide. The Coronet is 5-1/4" long. The chain to the pin is 2-5/8" long. Making it approx. 8- 5/8" that hangs down. |
