SOLD / China Pansy Pendant / Brooch This is a vintage porcelain / china pendant and brooch in one. Being as you can wear it on the chain that it came on or remove it to pin to your bodice / blouse. It's in my size large category. The center is made of china or porcelain with a hand painted pansy flower and what I call a marbling effect, (colors swirled together and blended into each other). A very common design for turn of the century. The center was detached when I got it, so I firmly bonded it back. There are no chips, or cracks. Colors being yellows blues and greens. I know women use to buy them (stud style, no larger than quarter size), already made are as blanks to paint themselves. They were used as collar studs for their detachable collars on their bodices. I have in my personal collection a number of theses studs. I think the stud design probably came first then the design carried over onto brooches. The mount is a mixture of gold and silver color metal, being I think originally gold color and with wear has silver color showing through. It seems to be made of pot metal, probably around the 1960's. As the mount seems to be approx. 1960's, leads me to doubt that the center was the originally one. I have no idea the age of the center, but I do believe it's decades older than the 1960's. The chain seems to go with the mount in color and metal and has a spring clasp closure that we are all use to seeing are having. A very nice piece for re-enactors or collectors. Not a good piece for someone hard on jewelry. Measurements: The center is approx. 2-3/8" high by 2" wide. the chain is approx. 24" long. |
